Assume you are referring to the 1860 POTUS election in this cartoon. If so, you should be aware that there were four candidates and four parties in that election.
Lincoln – Republican
Douglas – Northern Democrat
Bell – Constitutional Unionist
Breckinridge – Southern Democrat
Was it the Southern Democrats who kept Lincoln off the ballot in 10 of 11 future Confederate States?
It was actually the southern state’s legislatures. You know, because they loved them some slave owning.
